One upside could be to force companies to spend smarter and really think about there purchases.

I think especially with larger companies where spending is less accountable and less personal there is a lot of unnecessary spending. Unfortunately not many firms think smart when spending and automatically go for the cheapest option which may not always save them money in the long run.

All good stuff Lars however, as Vistage chair and business coach I have come to appreciate the key ingredient for success to day is "Discipline". You can have the best systems and processes in the world and provide top flight training however, they will all acount for nought if there is no discipline in the application. The days of easy pickings are over and now it is down to the business that is disciplined in everything that it does "do it right first time every time"

Steve,

Glad to see that you have started a blog, good luck with it!

I agree that there are more and more ways of approaching business/developing opportunities that can be considered now that would have seemed unacceptable or inappropriate only two or three years ago. I feel that this is an ideal opportunity to challenge the normal "ways of working"; to question if there are simple changes we can make to our default modes of operation to find simpler and more obvious ways of achieving our business goals.

Due to the state of the economy, more and more people seem to be graduating from University having spent months and perhaps years forming ideas for their own new businesses, with some already 'trading' from their bedrooms or garages. Entrepreneurs with energy, innovative ideas on how businesses should run, and courage to follow up on their vision.

My view is that more energy, innovation and courage is needed to help drive more opportunities for business trying to survive and prosper in the 'New Economy'.

Regards
